Instructor: Laurie Humble
Class Code: LH801
Workshop Fee: $250
Skill Level: All
Medium: Watercolor
Date: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, May 16, 17, 18, 2008
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Add new dimension to your watercolors using techniques Laurie has included in her upcoming book, Watercolor Depth and Realism. Through a series of exercises carefully designed to teach specific concepts, you will learn key ways to say good bye to flat looking pieces. Beginners and advanced painters alike will come away with a new understanding of how to create a sense of visual depth. Lessons learned through the exercises can be applied to any painting style or skill level. On the last day of the workshop, bring along a few pieces you have done that you feel are too flat looking. You will rework them, using what you have learned and you'll will be amazed at the new levels of dimension you create!
Supplies: At least 5 or 6 quarter-sheet size pieces of watercolor paper, 140# or 300#, or a small block. Arches or any similar brand.
Your favorite tubes of watercolor paint. I use Lukas, but any brand will be fine. Keep in mind that a professional grade may lead to better results. You will definitely need a tube of indigo. Tubes of Primary Blue-Cyan, Primary Red-Magenta, and Primary Yellow would be helpful, but are not imperative.
Any kind of palette with a mixing area.
At least one round watercolor brush, #10 or #12, with a good sharp point. A synthetic brush is fine.
A quarter (yes, a 25 cent piece) you will be using it for one of the exercises.
Two pencils.
At least two watercolors you feel are too "flat", for reworking on day three. If you don't have anything, try to paint a few small simple and quick paintings before the workshop. In order for you to get the most out of the experience, you'll need something you've painted already to try our new techniques on.
Paper towels, scissors, an eraser and a hairdryer.
