This 5-Day workshop will touch on five different topics during the course of the week. Color will be the focus of the first day with special emphasis on the colors greens. Mixing color and application of paint will have a thorough demonstration during the morning session.
Design with all its facets will be the topic of the second day. The morning painting demonstration will focus on how design moves the eye through the painting.
Drawing with a brush and how to be effective so you can make every brush stroke count.
Shades of color will explain how to create the illusion of the third dimension. What shade and contrast really do!
Make the most of your color. Mix the colors you want with ease.
Oil Colors: Cadmium Yellow Light, Hansa Yellow Medium, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red Light, Indian Red, Quinacradone Magenta (optional), Cerulean Blue, Phthalo Turquoise, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, and Titantium Zinc White (Large tube)
Optional Colors: Viridian, Burnt Sienna, Naphthol Red, Perylene Red, Indian Yellow, Ivory Black.
Morgan uses almost all Robert Gamblin Oil Colors but is not limited to these choices. Other brands that Morgan uses are Old Holland ,Holbein, Maimeripuro, and Rembrandt Oil Colors.
Support for paintings:
Linen on Panel, Stretched Linen, Stretched Canvas, Masonite (Prepare your own panels by using three thin coats of a tinted gesso.) or Clay Board
Work in a size of your choice. Morgan suggests: 8x10, 9x12, 11x14, 12x16 or 16x20 for on location painting during this workshop.
Other Supplies for Oil Painting:
Brushes: Flats in various sizes #3, #4, #5, #6, #8, #10, or #12
The brand that Morgan recommends is Silver Brush and the style is named “Grand Prix”
Easel (sturdy enough to withstand outdoor use) There are numerous easels available today for the plein air painter.
A wooden palette.
Medium: Morgan uses various mediums they are all made by Robert Gamblin.
NeoMeglip, Galkyd Slow Dry, Galkyd Lite, or Galkyd
Medium cup to hold the medium.
Container for solvent - used for cleaning the brushes during the painting session.
Solvent: Please buy Gamsol only as the solvent to be used in class. Gamsol puts 96% less harmful particles in the air. It is much healthier for artists use. Gamsol is made by Robert Gamblin.
Wet painting carrier.
Miscellaneous supplies:
Sketch Pad, 4B pencils, kneaded eraser, Small chair or stool, Umbrella, Toilet Paper. Morgan refers to them as “Rembrandt Rolls” & Plastic storage bags.
Clips small – you never know when you will need them, Suntan Lotion, Hat, Sturdy shoes to protect your feet while on location, Bug spray.
