Date: Thursday evening 6-8pm (meet and greet), Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Time: 10am-4pm each day
Studio workshop for adults working in pastel and/or oil. The focus of the class is to utilize photographs (and other preliminary studies) as a jumping-off point and a reference to create a painting, rather than merely copying the photograph(s). The subject matter can be whatever each student chooses. This class is geared for adults who have acquired basic skills have basic knowledge in their respective mediums.

This is a very detailed list...
PAINTS: Use your own palette of colors, or choose from the following:
Limited Palette: Comprised of a warm and cool of the 3 primaries + black & white
Example: Alizarin Crimson, Cad. Red Medium; Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue; Cad. Yellow Light, Yellow Ochre. Ivory Black, Titanium White
Full Palette: Comprised of the above plus a warm and cool of Complimentary Colors
Example: Viridian, Cad. Green; Raw Sienna, Cad. Orange; Dioxazine Purple, Cobalt Violet.
**Bring Burnt Umber (warm)or Paynes Gray (cool) for tonal work.
Palette: Prefer you NOT use a paper palette… glass or plexi with a cover is best. (Paint the back side of glass with a mid-tone neutral gray.)
Canvas: Bring a variety of sizes from 12”X16” to “16”X20”. This can be stretched canvases or ‘real canvas’ pads and a backing board. (NOT the cardboard canvas panels!)
ODORLESS turpentine: ie: Turpenoid or Gamsol
Medium: use a fast drying medium as Liquin
Rags: preferably jersey (T-shirt) scraps
VIVA Paper Towels
Brushes: Variety of sizes (0-12) and shapes (filberts, flats, rounds)…thin, long bristle ‘rigger’ brush…whatever you normally use.
Palette Knife: trowel style with rounded shoulders (or your preference)
PASTEL PAINTERS:
PASTELS: Bring as many as you can comfortably accommodate
PAPER: Sanded paper, either Kitty Wallis or U-Art approx 18”x24”, backing board
Pastel Pencils: I use Carb-Othello…the more, the better.
Brushes: stiff bristled oil brushes…small, med, large (do not need to be new…old worn brushes work fine)
Blending tools: ie: stump, packing peanuts, your pinky finger!
Odorless turp: Turpenoid or Gamsol….small sealed container
Oil Paints: 3 primaries plus white (for underpaintings)
EVERYONE:
Sketch Pads: Small to medium one for thumbnails
Drawing Materials: Pencils, markers, charcoal, kneaded eraser for sketching
Tape: 1” blue painters tape.
Ruler
Cardboard (or mat board) right angle cuts approx 8” length (crop tool)
Photographs of subjects: enlarged to 8X10 or 8X12 (incorporate more than one photo in your painting if possible)
Plein Aire studies or sketches of subject. (if you have any)
