Creating a 'Community' of Mixed Media Paintings
A frequent contributing writer and artist to Cloth Paper Scissors, Jodi Ohl, will reveal her techniques to create distinctly textured and whimsical works of art similar to her published series of work, “In The Village”. Students will be prompted to unleash layers of creativity during this fun filled and colorful course as they work through exercises to complete their own village of three or more coordinating contemporary pieces. Students of all levels are encouraged to participate in this unique mixed media class. No rules, only imagination allowed as we travel through time to pay tribute to the places we've lived and loved while working with a limited color palette! As an added bonus, Jodi will share marketing techniques and publishing tips for students who desire to take their work to the next level.
Supply list: 3 (or more) 8x8 or 8x10 stretched canvases, white gesso, molding paste, acrylic glazing medium, a variety of fluid acrylics in a limited color palette (suggest Golden fluid or Matisse, choosing a few colors in the same color family with 1 or 2 contrasting colors), black and white acrylic paint, soft gel or other adhesive, a fine tip pen that has india ink, soft charcoal pencil, white gel pen, graphite pencil, a variety of papers, 2-3 favorite stamps, 1 foam stamp (suggest a flourish, or a fleur de lis), palette knife, a variety of brushes, heat gun.
Optional: Any mark making item you want to bring: bubble wrap, doilies, stencils, bottle caps, saran wrap. Workable fixative or spray varnish.
Homework: Students should be thinking about one of the towns they have lived in, what did the downtown area look like, schools, the road you lived in, what made that town unique or special to you?
Be ready to explore this town during the workshop!
Instructor will have additional papers and stamps for students to use and share.
