Instructor: Rocky Alexander

Class Code: RA1204

Workshop Fee: $120

Medium: Watercolor

Monday, April 23, 2012 10:00a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Learn a way of painting interesting patterns in water with watercolor in 6 hours. Students will explore drawing from a photograph, laying in the first washes, developing patterns by layering in consecutive glazes and finally using 'calligraphy' to capture the movement in the waning sun reflections. Photos included.

Bring a full or half sheet 300# Arches watercolor paper, a covered watercolor palette, sponge, paper towels, pencil, eraser, 1" one stroke (elongated flat) watercolor brush, a #6 or #8 (or both) watercolor round brushes, a #4 or #6 rigger (or script or script liner) watercolor brush, a container for water, and the following watercolors: burnt sienna, gamboge yellow, orange (any type), opera (pink), ultramarine blue, permanent mauve (or dioxene violet) and carmine (or vermillion). Please don't use student grade paints because they are a bit opaque and somewhat grainy.
